Genetically Engineered Foods
Gentically modified foods have become a convient source throughout the world. Obviously, America has become a country completely depended on Genetically modified foods (GMF). I'm not sure when GMF's were first produced, but I've seen how it's affected the present generation's health. Demographics show that 127 million adults in the U.S are overweight, 60 million are obese, and nine million are extremely obese. Scientist in this feild have created technology that controls the reproduction of our natural food sources; by using microinjections in livestock and in vegetation to produce more abundant agriculture. These microinjections also control the insect infections of our food sources. The intentions of this technology seems legitimate. However, the steroid chemicals seems to have caused health problems. Through my research paper I will review the affects of GMF's and how the present generation are affected by it. I'll come up with possible solutions to this problem.

Janelle Monae is the Future.
One of my favorite new artist in 2008. Janelle Monae. Her smooth and silky jazz voice combined with her indie rock beats or so sick!!!!!!!( Sick is good by the way) I encourage everyone to check this bad sista out. ( Bad means good also ) Monae has a futuristic style. She has fused the old and new genre's of music together, and has created some interesting music. Listen to some of her songs. She is EVERYTHING!!! ( which is my way of saying she is really cool ) I hope you enjoy. You can listen to some of her music if you click on the audio clip thats on my profile. Hope you like. Checkmate!!
I chose chess club as a subculture. I decided to sign on my atlas and check different organizations that Valencia’s west campus offers. I was interested in Gospel choir and West end Theatricals. However, I was a part of groups such as these ones when I was attending high school. As I went down the list of organizations I came across chess club. Since I was never good at chess I decided to choose chess club as my subculture. From what I’ve noticed it takes a lot of concentration and focus to play the game. It seems as though a lot of intellectuals play chess. Being one myself (Ha Ha!), I felt the need to learn the secrets of chess. I also will observe how the members of chess club interact with each other. Maybe if I stick around chess club long enough I’ll become a chest master. I believe chess club is a qualified subculture, because members have in common the need to play complex and challenging games that require strategic skills. There are also cool phrases that you say in the game such as "checkmate" which means that you win the game. I don't know if chess club have any specific rituals. Although, I think the members of chess club make similiar facial gestures when they are playing the game.

Brotherly Hate
My survival in the unfriendly city of Philadelphia has been an experience I’ll never forget. Philadelphia is called the “City of Brotherly Love”. In actuality it’s the exact opposite. Philadelphia’s crime level is extremely high and intimidating for a young kid who was only familiar with the southern state Florida. I think this is an interesting topic for me to expound on because North Philly’s harsh environment awakened cautiousness within me. Living there helped me become street smart and taught me to rely on myself. After I moved from Philly back to Florida I promised myself I’ll never be a victim. I was confronted by some of the craziest and wicked people. As a result, I loss trust in people. It’s uncomfortable for me to open up to people because I feel like they have hidden intentions. So I automatically classify everyone as an enemy. Hopefully, recalling moments from my past in North Philly I’ll learn what aspect of this experience caused me to create a hard shell around my heart and become paranoid. While also helping me to let go of the pain felt from the experience. I need to lighten up a bit. I believe I’ll remind myself that where I am now is not where I was. Finally I can let people in my life be my support that I can count on in trying times. Philly revealed to me that I am an over-comer and no one can stop me from becoming what I was created to do.

Noble leader
I was created already predestined as an inspiration for the present generation. I was given my first name by my older brother, who at the time was six years old. My name is Arik, and it means noble leader. Ironically, I usually portray the role as the leader and mediator in my circle of friends. I believe it was God who premeditated my existence through my brother, and for that I’m so appreciative to abide under the power of God’s grace, which gives me favor and protects me daily. I was born March 4, 1990, that classifies my Zodiac sign as Pisces with a Gemini moon. The combination of both these signs characterizes me as an indecisive person.
My indecisiveness is most noticeable in my writing, when I have to give answers to subjective questions, and arguments. It tends to be difficult for me to express my opinions clearly. I guess it’s because I draw from so many different perspectives that it causes me to lose my voice as a writer. In Meredith’s class I hope to find my voice as a writer, through expressing my ideas in a clear and concise manner. Expressing the ideas of others has always been natural for me. Therefore, it’s not hard to understand why I made the decision to become an actor.
Acting has allowed me to go beyond the parameters of my own views into the perspectives of others. It’s become an outlet in which I channel my emotions when I become stressed. During the curtain call after my first performance, I walked out on stage and the audience applauded heavily. At that moment I realized I delivered a performance that was pleasing for people to watch. From this experience I knew I wanted to pursue acting as a career, and that’s why I’m attending college for a theatre education. The play A Raisin in the Sun is one of my favorite plays. Its a story about the classic black lower class family struggling to move into the middle class lifestyle. This material written by Lorraine Hansberry shows numerous motifs that illustrate the perseverance that most lower class (poor) families exhibit. The symbol in the play that intrigues me is the plant, which represents the dream and ambition that Mama (the grandmother of the family made up of Walter Lee (Mama’s son), Ruth (Walter Lee’s wife), Travis (Walter Lee’s son), and Beneatha (Mama’s daughter) has of being successful. Although the plant is old and worn it still has endured threw every problem it has faced. I understand life as the plant. I know what it's like to struggle, but to still have this drive to overcome all troubles. This drama motivated me and has given me strength to "keep on keeping on". I apologize if you think I wrote to much about this play. I wanted to write about something that has influenced my life.
